Just wanted to say that I
enjoyed your article on how journalists must ban themselves from obtaining
confidential information unlawfully. I wonder how many staff journalists know
or care what you are talking about as long as they get paid. Perhaps you have
to be freelance, outside the system, to worry about it.
There is a decreasing diversity of voices in the media, and I think
that is part of the problem: too much news time and space to fill by too few
people. And who is there to question what journalists are up to – only
themselves.
I deliberately did not go into news journalism myself because it seems
to trivialise or distort everything it touches. I do not know whether it is
possible to conceive of a paper that can be conscientious and keep an open
mind, but it is a nice idea.
